Research by the Radio 1 programme Reporter Radio has shown that many organisations have insufficiently secured their online documents and data. Because Dutch FTP servers are as leaky as a basket, confidential data of many thousands of citizens can easily by accessed by anyone.

FTP servers are used by companies and institutions to store and exchange data. Many of these FTP servers are not password protected, and even if they are, the default password of the manufacturer is often used.
Your confidential data is easily accessible
Besides administrative data, information that can easily be accessed also includes sensitive correspondence on redundancies and employee reviews. This makes it easy for criminals to mess with the administrative data of businesses, of even commit identity fraud and blackmail people.
