Application LTFS: LTO 5 or higher

The arrival of LTO5 has demonstrated new methods of archiving and migration to tape. By using LTFS, files can now be written on a ‘file level’, similar to a CD, USB stick or hard disk. This provides great benefits for searching and moving files.

Moreover, it also comes with great cost advantages with regards to archiving of static data. Its use offers unlimited possibilities for securing video archives, (medical) photo material, CAD/CAM files and unstructured data. With regards to the application of snapshots, there is also the additional advantage of older snapshots now being more easily migratable from disk to LTO5.
